My Acne Cure

First off, I want to thank EVERYONE for all the wonderful suggestions on how to cure my HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD acne last week.  It was so painful that it hurt to smile or even sleep anywhere but on my back, which drove Ben crazy because I might or might not tend to snore a little when I have to sleep flat on my back...

After I got all your wonderful ideas, I made a list and put them in order based on price.  Just before I made the trip to Walmart to try the first on my list, I got an email from a fellow Army Wife and friend about her method.  Here is what she said:

"Hey, I have a magic acne clearer-upper I got it BAD ... like SO BAD after having my baby, that I had to get stuff injected into them to kill them. They were cystic acne, so so painful. Nothing worked. Finally, a dear friend (who's like an EXTREME naturalist) told me about oil cleansing. I was like WHAT?! Put MORE oil on my face?! But it cleared up almost immediately, and I haven't broken out in almost 4 years. Even cleared up my blackheads. I SWEAR by it. I could be a walking infomercial. Also, it's cheap. Like make from your kitchen cheap. If you have any ??? feel free to hit me up. Everyone does it differently, based on their skin type. But I PROMISE it works."

I Googled this mysterious method that worked so well for my friend.  This is the link I found: Click Here!

Now there were a few things going through my mind:

1.  In all truth, I am not a big fan of naturalist ideas.  Mainly, because once I seriously almost died by using "natural methods" and ended up in the hospital hooked up to IVs.

2.  I HATE spending a fortune on facial care, so I was a little happy that this was something I already had the stuff for... although, I can't remember for the life of me why I had caster oil in my cupboard....  So this went to the top of my list of things to try, and it was basically free because I had the stuff, and I was already broken out pretty bad... what could it hurt to give it a try? Right?

3.  Putting oil on my face, however, goes against EVERYTHING I was EVER taught at skin care parties and by my mom.  Aren't we always trying to get rid of the oil?  Isn't oil a BAD thing?

But I read through the website, and I like I said up in #2 it couldn't hurt to try.  If it made it worse, I could just go get the next product on my list.

I wish I would have taken a picture of my acne face.  I was so horrified by it that I didn't... now I regret that decision.  But I did find an old pic of me with a more minor breakout that I could share with you to get a little idea:

Never mind, try as I might, I could not find a picture to my bad acne justice!  (I feel weird saying that...)

Anyhow, I went to my kitchen cupboard and pulled out the olive oil (I didn't have sunflower, but I got some later and I didn't like it as much as the olive) and the caster oil and mixed me up a little bottle.  I did everything the site said, and I couldn't believe how easily it not only took off my makeup but cleansed my face!  It felt so good after... I even did it to Ben and rubbed some on his back (all the training with a ruck sack gives him some "bacne").  Then I we went to bed.

Next day my face was, no kidding, about 50% cleared up!  Like magic!!  Ben's bacne was fading too!

Day 3 it was almost gone, but on Day four I got a couple small zits on my face.  I read that I may get a few as the oil started to really pull the gunk out.  But the zits were so tiny that they were gone by day 5.

Today, day 9, I woke up, showered and put my makeup on.  I seriously could not believe how smooth my skin looked!!!  I could still see some of the old scars on my chin, but they were fading, and I was pleased to see that my wrinkles have even softened.  I took this picture this morning, I look a little dorky, but I wanted to have my hair pulled away from my face so you could see the whole face.  I didn't smile big, so you could see my softened wrinkle lines (although I look WAY cuter when I do smile):
No photoshop -- you can tell because when I do do touch ups I soften the bags under my eyes.  (Note: I am wearing some makeup, but not liquid foundation.  I am just using the mineral powder from Avon)

One of my friends was shocked when she saw me and my clear face.  She is like a professional skin care person and spends hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year on skin care stuff.  She still gets zits -- like big ones.  Honestly, she could not believe how fast I cleared up and asked me what I ended up doing... I think she was a little irritated that I hadn't called her and ordered her stuff.  When I told her what I did, she was HORRIFIED!  Like eyes bugging out horrified!  It was totally against her facial religion and defied all she had ever been told.  If I hadn't been proof standing right in front of her, she might never have believed me (although, I am pretty sure she still doesn't).  She kept arguing the point, until finally I just pointed out that my skin was smooth and perfect (and then said in my head, AND I have less zits than you do!  SLAM! -- but I am way to nice to say it out loud... but the implication was there.)

But you have it.  It worked for me.  My face looks younger, feels smoother, and best yet I only have to wash it with the oil once a day!  And once I am totally cleared up, I only have to do it a few times a week.  Now, that is my idea of good skincare!

PS - Now, my sister is doing this too.  Amy has always struggled with acne since she was a teen -- much worse than I have.  She is also having great results, but she's only been doing it for a few days, I can't wait to hear what she had to say in another week!

UPDATE!!!!  It has almost a year since I started using this!  Here is my update on how it is going: click here!

That's awesome!
My face has been crazy since hubs deployed. I just bought a Clarisonic, to use when I shower at night, but I'm definitely going to add this in, too, and get rid of my morning routine.

I have been doing this for a bit too, mainly for really dry skin issues. It has helped tremendously with my skin, my blackheads are gone, the redness went away and I have stopped digging at my cheeks.

Acne has plagued me from my teens into my mid thirties it truly is a cheeky problem. I find that when I do eat right and use the right products that I can actually manage it. Proactiv has also been a blessing for me. Acne is an extremely infuriating thing, I find using aloe and tea tree oil along with proactive helps me cure zits. How I cured my acne love your blog!

My skin is super sensitive and something like benzyl peroxide just doesnt work for me. Any suggestions on a mild effective acne treatment? acne severe treatment

Cat said...

Amelia -- this is a pretty sensitive mixture. I have heard that some people are allergic to the castor oil, but MOST people aren't. I have sensitive skin too and benzyl ALWAYS breaks me out. The oil cleansing method is really mild, but SUPER effective. Good luck!!

PS I did a one year update on this post, you can check it out here: http://nutsinanutshell.blogspot.com/2013/02/clearest-skin-around.html

Correct washing of the skin will eliminate oils and bacteria that can cause acne. However, when you already have serious acne breakouts, washing alone likely will not make it go away. Frequent and harsh washing can even make it worse.
There special anti-bacteria soaps designed for people suffering from acne. These soaps can help target the bacteria which may be causing the acne breakout.

If you are not a fan of natural ideas then Renova Cream is one of the best treatment for acne and acne scars. One of my friends has used it and has got noticeable difference in two weeks.

Do you still have acne outbreaks now, Cat? I think you should moisturize regularly. I know how much it hurts when you have acne. You smile or move your facial muscles and then you’re suddenly reminded of just how dry your skin is. To maintain your blemish-free skin, it’s important to moisturize before you leave the house in the morning, and then one more time before you go to sleep at night. That will keep your skin from drying up!

Gaye -- No, I have no acne. If you look at the bottom of the post there is an update link after one year of doing this.

Of course I moisturize. I use pure olive oil when I feel dry, which is hardly ever now, even in the winter. This oil program has kept my skin so moisturized that I even many of my winkles are gone.

I know that many people are skeptical about this, especially "skin care pros" -- but I don't care. I have wasted SO MUCH money on their products, that it's a joke. My skin is perfect now, better and younger looking than ever before and that's what has proved it to me.

Most specialists say ten glasses a day . in other way that it is not necessary because human gets a lot of water in their food. However you should look for healthy food anyway.
Personally i mostly drink between 2.5 liters and 3.0 liters of water a day. Mine skin simply loves the stuff. i don't suffer anymore about pimples thanks to

For many of us, acne is more than skin deep. It’s a source of insecurity, self-doubt, and pain. Unfortunately, finding the right cure can sometimes be as crippling as the problem.

2 years ago I started the Citrus Clear regimen. I used the Citrus Clear Control line treatment and then switched to the Sensitive line. Within a couple months my skin was finally clear. Until then, I had always had stubborn moderate acne that never went away, even after countless dermatologist trips.

I switched back over to Control line and without it my face is a mess.
