Motherhood: It's What We Do!

I don't think mother's get enough credit these days. We certainly get a lot of garbage from the world out there. Who else gets tired of people trashing motherhood? Or gets sick of hearing: "You're JUST a stay-at-home mom?" or even "You're a WORKING mom?" I know I do! Whether or not we are working moms, stay-at-home moms, married moms, or single moms -- motherhood is a life calling, a mission, and one of the most honorable and selfless jobs out there, and we, moms, are all working hard at it no matter our situation in life.  We are raising the future!  This world depends on us!  One of my favorite poems was written more than 125 years ago by William Ross Wallace, and it is just as true today as it was then:

Blessings on the hand of women!

Angels guard its strength and grace,

In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;
Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Infancy's the tender fountain,
Power may with beauty flow,
Mother's first to guide the streamlets,
From them souls unresting grow—
Grow on for the good or evil,
Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Woman, how divine your mission
Here upon our natal sod!
Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
Always to the breath of God!
All true trophies of the ages
Are from mother-love impearled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Blessings on the hand of women!
Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
And the sacred song is mingled
With the worship in the sky—
Mingles where no tempest darkens,
Rainbows evermore are hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

This is a special time of the year, this weekend, to take some time out and think about all the wonderful things about being a mom, a daughter/son to a mom, and even a granddaughter/grandson. What would we do without motherly influence in our lives? What would our kiddos do without us, moms? Husbands, how about those wonderful wives who mother your children, and sometimes even you (lol)?

I know Mother's Day should be in all our hearts all the time, but face it, that just isn't going to happen! Besides it wouldn't be fair to honor mom on Father's Day, right? Just a thought... So since Mother's Day only comes once a year, I want to wish you all a great one! I hope you all get lots of flowers (dandelions count coming from little hands, not big ones), a clean kitchen, and a body massage with lotion... the fruity smelly good kind that the hubby won't touch on a normal day... ahh... I can imagine mine right now...

PS-- I want to just mention a special Mother's Day to the mom's in my life:  Mom, Grandmas, Mother and Sister-in-Law, Aunts, Cousins, and my sister Amy.  I love you!
