Ramen Noodles -- Mana from Heaven or Rubbish?

I am pretty sure we can have a healthy little chat about the virtues and vices of the Ramen Noodle.Single Men live off it.

Single women eat it too and deny it.

Kids LOVE it.

Not to mention, they are 10 cents a package!

Sam would eat it 5 times a day and on the bus if I would let him!

And moms? Well, mom's get the cookbook "101 Different Ways to Cook Ramen Noodles" just to add a little variety to the table of little mouths and one big manly one.

What gets me is that picky eaters really like them... a lot. And I think Ramen Noodles gives a lot to be picky about. Ironic, I think.

I admit, I am known to eat them at times. Ben loves a creamy style I make, and can you really eat an oriental chicken salad with crushing some in??

What are your thoughts on the Ramen Noodle?

Hi - ventured over while poking around Clark Kent's Lunchbox.

My kids LOVE Ramen noodles. I deny feeding it to them. ;-) I occasionally get the Ramen craving.

My online parenting group recently had a long discussion on the best way to cook them. There are different methods and people will fight for theirs to the death!

The "101 ways to cook Top Roman" was bought by a MOM "me" for her college student "you".Thank goodness for the strange little noodles.

I loved them when I was a kid and still try to eat them now, but they don't taste the same. I have a awesome Chinese Coleslaw recipe that has Ramen Noodles in them. I don't even like coleslaw but this is great!!

ONE word for you.... NASTY!!!!

I seriously don't like Ramen, and never really liked it as a kid either. But I did eat it because my parents made me.

My husband, and kids LOVE them though, but I think they are outright NASTY!!

My oldest boy would live off it, too, if he had his way. The other two think it's the best treat ever when I make it for dinner. I have a niece who despised cereal and chose to eat Ramen Noodles for breakfast instead. That was when she was in high school!

I ate these a lot as a kid - microwaved, raw,in salads, and stir fry...it's cheep. After a few years of these little 10 cent meals; I decided to never eat boxed mac-andcheese or Ramen noodles, ever...then years later,I found some hiding in my hubby's pantry.

I don't mind them now! It's funny!

I think their great!! We've been out for a while & I keep forgetting to get more. The kids love them & they are great to eat when it's cold outside. I usually give the kids the most noodles & I end up with the broth but I like it :)

I love Ramen. They are cheap. They are quick and they always satisfy. What's not to love?

My husband eats them with ketchup and grated cheese. Super nasty.

my children LOVE it! and when there is a major holiday break from school? like the flippin 3 weeks they were just on?? I buy it in bulk :) I can get a box of 20 for $1.86 at Walmart! :) I usually buy 4 boxes :) I dont eat it very often but my husband REFUSES to touch it because he and his mom lived on it for 4 months during a "rough time" when he was little... :) it is great for the teenagers I have since they can make it themselves :)

I love Ramen noodles. And I've realized recently that I eat vegetables with Ramen more often than with anything else. A handful of Normandy Medley frozen veggies in the water at the same time as the noodles, and they are both done at the same time.
My sons, who are both picky eaters, love Ramen too. My husband isn't a fan.
I do have the Ramen cookbook, my college roommates gave it to me.

My five-year-old son doesn't like ramen, but my two-year-old daughter loves it! When I was a kid, I would eat the whole block raw with a little bit of the powder sprinkled on it. It sounds gross to me now, but back then I loved that!

P.S. I have a very vague memory of Ben telling a bunch of family members that he liked to add a raw egg to the ramen while it boiled to add some substance and protein. :o)

They helped me get through college. I still think they taste good, but I guess I am a snob. I feel like I have risen above the Ramen noodle at this point in life. My wife still eats them though.

Coming from someone who is currently in a "ramen or starve" phase, my vote is "Mana from Heaven." Sometimes I also like to drain them and throw a little marinara sauce on them, and viola, you have spaghetti!

I ate them a lot in college, of course, but have over the years moved away from them. I think I've seen one too many documentaries about islanders getting fat on processed noodles! Really, though, my kids like regular pasta just fine, so I haven't felt the need to go back to Ramen. I did like the noodles quite a bit, although the spice packets were way too salty. I typically used only half or just threw it away and used my own seasoning. I never ate the "broth", but seasoned the noodles (and usually added veggies, or even a little meat for dinner).

My kids love them too. I wish they didn't make such a mess though! if only all the noodles made it from their bowls to their mouths! I like the creamy version too, with cr. of chicken soup, and I put cut up chicken in it... quite tastey! All in all I am glad they are around... and cheap!!!
