Some Changes on the "Nutshell"

Good ones, I think.

When I started "4 Nuts in a Nutshell," my goal for this blog was to write ONE post a day. And it was to be mostly humor stuff. I had NO idea what a giveaway was, or even a product review -- I thought only professionals did that kind of stuff. Seriously! I am not kidding.

I have been dreaming my whole life about being a writer. I wrote my first "book" when I eight, and a novel when I was thirteen... not my best work. I have been working on lots of bits and pieces for a real novel for the last 10 years, but never getting around to finishing anything, or try to get my work published. Now, I just don't have time with 2 boys. So when blogging became an option, I jumped on it. When I first started my private blog about 2 years ago, people told me they like pictures, not a lot of words. That totally bummed me out. I felt I was a writer, not a photographer. Besides, I hated feeling like I was saying look how cool I am, my kids are so wonderful, we are the perfect family, yadda yadda yadda... Not my cup of tea... or hot chocolate... I don't drink tea. Or I could say, "Not my can of soda..." Yeah, I like that!

Anyway, as the story goes (I hope you aren't bored) I decided when I moved here to "The Nutshell" that I was going to send out some feelers and write a humor piece for once. I wrote: Sam's Club Torture. It was a hit! All my friends really liked it and encouraged me to continue with the humor. I did a quick follow up with A Tribute to the Fruit Snack.

Eventually, my friends convinced me to share my stuff with the world resulting in the birth of "4 Nuts in a Nutshell". I didn't start it to get famous or popular. I didn't do it to earn money (although bonus if I did!). And I definitely didn't do this to lift myself up. I just wanted to write. Funny stuff. I wanted to make people laugh.

Then it happened. I got followers. COOL! I got offered to do giveaways. Yay! And best of all, I made LOTS of new friends! (Yeah, I am talking about YOU!) Then it became more than just writing. I got emails to do product and blog reviews, giveaways, features, etc. You know how it is. But doing only ONE blog post a day has been killing me! Not because I don't love doing all those things I just listed, because I DO. It's been great fun! But sometimes I feel like, I don't get to what I really want to, WRITE. Know what I mean? I have not 1, not 2, not even 3 funny posts already written, just dying to be published... I have SEVEN. I am totally telling ya the truth. And they keep being pushed back so I can do all the other stuff.

So I came up with a plan! I think it is a good one! If I have a giveaway or a review I will still post it, but I will also post one of my regular pieces. So it will be two posts some days. I know a lot of my readers don't read past the first post you see, but I am telling you, I will make it worth your time to take a peek. I hope this isn't too much for you guys. I know bloggers like to take as little time possible on each blog so they can get to them all. If you think this is a bad idea let me know. I just know that I get the most comments and readership on my personal/humor posts. And I don't want to ever lose sight of what this blog really is to me.

I would really love your feedback!
(also only 52 more followers to go until I do monthly features and give out a great award!)

Ending on this note: (Too dang funny to pass up!)

I think it's a good idea for you to remember why you started the Nutshell in the first place. To write! Giveaways and product reviews should never take precedence (in my opinion). Two posts a day shouldn't be a huge problem. But keep the funny coming. I know that's what I'm here for.

Sounds like a great idea to me! I enjoy reading your stories/humor pieces. I say go for it, and who cares what other people think or want. This is YOUR blog, BTW!

I think you're doing a terrific job, and I'd hate to see your writing give way to...er...give a ways...you're way to talented for that to happen. I found your blog through Pam's Perspective, she has good taste in bloggers! And I'm glad I decided to put you on follow. I'm not much for give a ways, but I enjoy your writing (boy, I'm being rather redundent, aren't I?

Thanks everyone!! You have no idea how much it means to hear this!

I think you absolutely have to do your humor posts. You should not do the other stuff at the expense of your own writing.

Oh and I'm making you one follower closer to your goal.

I love your humorous funny stuff! That's what I love about the "nutshell." Why do you think I come here everyday! ....or several times a day. Heck, giveaway shmiveaway. I just like to laugh.

Gal, post as often as you wish! I have some blogs I follow that post multiple times a day.

I might skip a day here and there; and then post once, twice and thrice in a day.

If you want to do the doubles, most should scroll a little unless they are going through a reader.

But, since they will be different posts at different times (even a few minutes apart) then they will show up individually in the reader..

Happy Changes and way to keep your head up!

I think 2 a day sounds good- go for it. I was also thinking about you with your husband away and wanted to say if you need some time to yourself (as we all do!)don't forget to ask for help (if you can and want) when you need it.

I agree with the other posters. I love being able to read a funny post every day.

Great idea! Your writing is fantastic, so I really look forward to your stories. I have my blogroll set up to show the blogs who have posted most recently at the top. So if you post more than once in a day I will see your blog back at the top and know to read it again! Thanks for letting us know :)

This to me is the best part of having your own blog. You can do it any which way your little heart desires. Post three times a day if you want!

I read blogs for the original content so post as many stories as you like. I would prefer that. I typically ignore the giveaways on every site I visit.
