Daddy Saturday (on Monday)

First of all, I’m sorry I missed Daddy Saturday, I was bogged way down with paperwork and I needed to finish it that morning, so I’m making up for it today. Enjoy.

Recently I was at work (Wal*Mart) puzzling about the different ways that men and women think. Meanwhile I came upon something that I would enjoy having, however it was too expensive to just buy myself, it would have to be a gift from my wife, because then we could afford it. That’s when I came up with the subject of this post. Namely “Man Gifts”.

Now I say “Man” for a reason. Guys like analog watches, snazzy ties and cell phones that do everything under the sun. Men like guns, tools, digital watches, and cell phones designed for us to call people and not the other way around. So yes, there is a difference between guys and Men and I aim to tell all the women out there who married Men what it is he wants in a gift. And since Father’s Day is coming up, here are some handy tips for your handy Man gifts.

First of all, when your hubby says he would like a toolbox, he’s thinking about something made of metal with drawers and wheels. (Preferably with a name on it like DeWALT, HITACHI, Snap-on, or CRAFTSMAN because for the most part, THEY ARE UNBREAKABLE). He is not thinking of something small and made of plastic that could be easily mistaken for a tackle-box. However, a tackle-box with all the fixings would be nice if it came with a quality fishing pole. That kind of gift however could have adverse affects later on, so if you’re going to do it, double up and go with him.

On a side note, the quality of the tools should match the quality of the toolbox. No guy wants to open a nice toolbox to find dime-store tools inside. And rest assured, if you get him something nice, he’ll take care of it, and you won’t end up buying another one/different one later on.

Now when a guy wants a toy, an RC car for example, you should remember that butane is a good thing, and the ten dollar knock-off just isn’t going to cut it, it needs to be able pick up, push, or shoot the kids toys into submission.

Now, larger scale toys for the out-of-college phase couples should be directed toward what men love best which are beds and skimpy clothing because of all the cool stuff you can do with them. So if you’re thinking of getting him a vehicle, make sure it comes with a bed built in with some skimpy clothing for yourself as the cherry. But for those of you who lack funding, a normal bed with the skimpy clothing will do.

Finally there’s the issue of the entertainment center. I know, the last thing you want your Man to do is spend more time in front of the TV, but for those of you who are willing to make it happen, here’s a few tips. Men do not like all-in-one setups. He wants something he has to put together into a glorious plethora of connectors and adaptors that gives you the option for surround sound and can make you feel like you’re part of the scene. And most of all, he wants a remote control that could launch the space shuttle. Sure you might have some trouble figuring it all out, just remember, Men LOVE to teach their wives how to properly operate things (ego issues). So let him have that master blaster of television control and you’ll have the happiest man alive. The trick to the whole setup is not to get him his own recliner. Make him stick to the couch, because that way, you can lay across it with him sitting on the end, and he’ll rub your feet for hours while he watches his movie.

If you feel it necessary, you can print this off and take it with you as a guide while you’re shopping and always remember “Happy Men make happy wives”.

Until next Saturday…

The Daddy Nut.

Haha, don't forget that men are suckers for homemade gifts from the kids. Last year I bought Ben a "World's Best Dad" tee-shirt and then ironed on the back "Property of Sam and Nephi: Father's Day 2008" with their hand prints underneth. This tough daddy, totally melted! Ben LOVED it, and still wears it proudly to this day.

They may act tough, but they are still softies when it comes to their babbies.

Yes, there is definitely a difference between Men and guys. Always a pleasure reading Daddy Saturday, even if it is on Monday. ;)
